Scoot Mole Repellent
Q: What concentration of liquid would I use for the mole repellent in a backpack sprayer?
A: Scoot Mole Liquid is dispersed at a 20 to 1 ratio. Our 32 oz. bottle will cover 10,000 sq. ft.
Q: I read the comments regarding animals. It says it is safe. When I was at the store the clerk said that if my dog walked on the product after it was applied and licked his paws he would get sick. Could you please advise me if Scoot Mole is safe to apply. Also, my neighbor has a cat that frequents our year. Will it be safe for the cat also?
A: Thank you for your inquiry about the safety of our Scoot Mole Repellent. Scoot Mole is made with all natural Castor and Garlic Oils. It’s perfectly safe for animals to walk on after applying. The oils start to penetrate the soil immediately after watering the treated area. Scoot Mole is People, Pet, & Plant Safe™.
Q: Is this product also effective against voles, and is it safe to use in a vegetable garden?
A: Scoot Mole is very effective in repelling moles, voles, gophers, and other burrowing animals and it’s safe to use in a vegetable garden. The Castor and Garlic Oils are natural ingredients so it’s People, Pet, & Plant Safe™. Please let us know if you’d like more information about our Scoot Mole Repellents.
Q: I'm just beginning a lovely large vegetable garden plot in a Community Garden - we were told that they have a constant struggle with the vole population. Is your product safe for using in and around vegetable plots?
A: What a wonderful Community Project you’ve undertaken. Thank you for your question regarding using Scoot Mole Repellent in a vegetable garden. Scoot Mole Repellent is made with Castor and Garlic Oils that are People, Pet, & Plant Safe™, they’re natural ingredients. It’s very effective in repelling moles, voles, gophers, and other burrowing animals.
I’d recommend treating the garden area fairly soon. Spring is a great time to apply our product and it would be easier to apply before the plot is planted. The oils won’t harm the people doing the planting. The oils permeate the soil between eight and ten inches so it gets down to the moles, voles, and gophers food source. They dislike the smell and taste and have a hard time smelling their food and will go to untreated areas.
Q: I have the 32 oz container of Scoot Mole. I have sprayed it for 20 minutes or more and the level of material in the container has gone down maybe 1/2 inch. How long does it normally take to use up a full container? I used Scoot last year and do not remember this problem.
A: Thank you for your inquiry and for choosing our Scoot Mole Repellent. In answer to your question - it usually only takes between twenty to twenty five minutes to empty our 32oz. bottle. However if the oil is cold it tends to take longer. We’re located close to you in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the outside temperature has been pretty cool. If your bottle wasn’t stored inside it was more than likely not warm enough to dispense in less time. I usually tell our cooler weather customers to set the bottle in a sink with hot water for ten to fifteen minutes to warm of the oil before applying. Hope that this helps for future use!
Q: I need to know if your products are safe for my pets. I would also like to know more about your cleaning products and their safety?
A: Scoot Mole Liquid and Scoot Mole Granular are People, Pet, & Plant Safe. The Castor and Garlic Oils used in the product are all natural ingredients. If your animals were to chew on the bottle or granular bag and ingest a lot of the product they would more than likely experience loose stools and/or vomiting but would not have long lasting effects. We're not aware of this ever happening! Thank goodness! Hope this answers your question.
Q: What is the percentage of castor oil. We have used some in the past, and it only works well if it is a high concentration.
A: The percentage of Castor Oil in our Scoot Mole Liquid is 99.8897%. We add a very potent Garlic Oil - 0.1103% that makes the product multi-critter functional. By adding the garlic oil our Scoot Mole repels Rabbits, Chipmunks, Ground Squirrels, Skunks, and other burrowing animals that dislike the smell and taste of the garlic oil. Both our Scoot Mole Liquid and Granular Repellents are proven performers. The key driving the animals away is following our step by step application instructions. Let us know if you need more information.
Q: What works to get rid of moles. How much do we need of your product?
A: Our Scoot Mole Repellents really do work to get rid of moles, voles, gophers, skunks, rabbits, chipmunks, and other burrowing animals. We use only the highest quality, pharmaceutical grade Castor and Garlic Oils in our Scoot Mole Products.
Q: Will it also repel my neighbors outside dwelling cats from coming into my yard & using it as a litterbox. The odor at my front door is absolutely horrid.
A: We have a product that will work to keep the cats from your yard. Spray our Scoot Squirrel Repellent in the areas by your front door and paths that they travel through regularly. They’ll find the pepper effects uncomfortable for a short time - without causing them any permanent affects. The cats will learn that every time they enter the treated area they’ll have a bad experience and consequently will stay away. It may take a few incidences of discomfort for animals but eventually they will modify their behavior.
Q: Does this product make your yard smell like garlic?
A: Thanks for your email. You will have a slight smell when applying. It is not overpowering and will disperse quickly. I (personally) actually like the odor. When we are filling bottles I get hungry as I LOVE Italian food.
Regardless if you are applying our liquid or granular product, it gets down into the soil when you water or it rains. From then on there is no odor at all. Hope this helps!
Q: Since there no reviews entered on your site, how do you know the effectiveness? How new is this product? After 90 days, you retreat the perimeter of affected property--how long can you get by with treating only the perimeter? Does it have to be applied with or without watering? (Please do not share my e-mail address!)
A: Thanks for your email – and we never share our customers information . Main reason there are no reviews is that our website has only been online for 1 week (the eCommerce portion). We had to do a TON of efficacy testing prior to obtaining EPA approval and licensing. Basically we had to prove it works. We have been making this for a decade and receive very few complaints. The complaints we do get typically are from customers who don’t read the label and treat their entire yard at once…not driving the moles out like we suggest.
If, for any reason, you are not THRILLED with the results, let us know. We’ll gladly refund your money.
In terms of the reapplying after 90 days, yes- you just do the perimeter to create a barrier. The Mole Liquid is applied with a hose end applicator – so it is watered while you apply it. The granular requires either watering OR a good rain after application for it to activate. Both options rely on the active ingredients to work down 8-10 inches into the soil to affect the moles food source. Hope this helps.
Q: What air/soil temperature do you recommend for application?
A: Regardless if you are applying the liquid or the granular – the active ingredients need to get worked down about 8-10 inches into the soil to be effective. Air temp doesn’t matter…but the ground has to not be frozen to that depth for it to work….the warmer the better, but anything above freezing will work.
Q: Is this product safe on household pets such as dogs?
A: Thanks for your email. Our Mole Repellent (& all our repellents) are All Natural, EPA tested & registered, and People, Plant and Pet Safe. In fact, they don’t even hurt the moles/voles…the active ingrediants (garlic and castor oils) irritate the smelling ability of the burrowing animals so they can't find their food. It basically drives them away seeking other areas that don't have the odor.
Worse case if your dog stuck their head in the bag, they would basically be eating Clay, Castor Oil and Garlic Oil. Would probably vomit & get loose stools…but they would have to eat a bunch of it. When you apply the granular – it breaks down and works it’s way into the soil after you water it and/or it rains…so the amount on the surface / top layer for the dog to eat will be minimal anyway. Happy hunting.
Scoot Squirrel Repellent
Q: I have squrirrels in my garage, tell me about your product.
A: Thanks for your question. Use Scoot Squirrel to keep the squirrels from entering your garage. It’s made to modify their behavior when the experience the pepper affects after traveling through a treated area. They get the pepper in their nose and eyes and experience some discomfort - much like we do when we get pepper or a strong soap in our eyes. The pepper affects won’t have any permanent effects for the animal.
I’d suggest spaying Scoot Squirrel on the area they travel to get into your garage. The product is for outdoor use only. When they enter the treated area and get a dose of the pepper a few times they learn that each time they go to that area they will experience discomfort. It may take a few times for them to modify their behavior but generally it only takes a couple of incidences to modify their behavior. It last up to fifteen days. If you notice that they are returning apply another treatment.
I personally have had great success with our Scoot Squirrel product. Scoot Squirrel formula is a cinnamon color and may cause a light red stain if you were to use it near the garage outdoor walls or sidewalk. It does fade with sunlight and rain.
Q: How long does this last?
A: Thank you for contacting us regarding our Scoot Squirrel Repellent’s lasting effects. In answer to your question… the active ingredients in Scoot Squirrel (Capsaicin and Capsaicinoid Product) are suspended in a liquid carrier that brings fast results, along with time released action that last up to 15 days. Usually the squirrel’s behavior is modified within those 15 days and they stay away from the treated areas. Hope we’ve answered your question satisfactorily!
Q: I have about twelve acres that are overrun with ground squirrels. How much product would I need to treat that amount of space?
A: Great question! Unfortunately there isn’t a specific answer for you other than a lot would be needed to cover twelve acres. The best advice that we can give you to deter them would be to treat the known paths where they enter your property (the perimeter if able to) and any trees they frequently go up and down. The basic premise of our Scoot Squirrel Repellent is to modify their behavior. When the animals travel through the treated areas they get the pepper on their paws and consequently get it in their eyes and olfactory and experience the hot pepper effects. It usually takes one or two encounters to change their behavior and no longer enter the treated areas as they realize that when they go there they’ll have an unpleasant experience. The squirrels generally stay away for at least fifteen days. Our product tested 100% effective even after three days of driving rain – on day fifteen of the application. If the squirrels return – and they usually do for a bit – retreat. They do eventually learn to stay away and are very tentative about entering treated areas.
Q: I have a Squirrel that is getting on our Deck and into the bird Feeder. Where would I spray this and will it effect the Birds? I also have a dog so I do not want it to harm her. Where would I spray this and how would it keep the Squirrel away?
A: We appreciate your inquiry regarding Scoot Squirrel.
How it works - The squirrels travel through the treated area, get the pepper on their fur and paws and then when it gets near their eyes it has a stinging affect. They experience discomfort for only a few minutes. There’s no permanent harm to the animal. After they travel through the area and experience the discomfort they learn that each time they go there they will be uncomfortable. It may take a couple of times but it does work to keep them away.
As for applying Scoot Squirrel to your bird feeder - We recommend spraying the top, bottom, sides, of the feeder and the pole that holds the feeder and the ground surrounding the feeder. You can spray it on a paint brush to apply where you know they’ll travel up and down on the feeder. Usually only two experiences for the squirrels is enough to deter them for at least 15 days. A second treatment may be needed after 15 days but usually they’re behavior has been modified for quite sometime.
The pepper in the product doesn’t affect the birds as they have a coating over their eyes. We suggest that you don’t spray the seeds. The liquid would likely soften the seeds, making them harder for the birds to crack.
We haven’t had any reports of dogs experiencing any of the pepper effects. Dogs generally don’t eat with their paws close to their eyes. Our Scoot Squirrel Repellent will deter dog and cats as well. They tend to stay away from treated areas.
Q: I need something to keep squirrels off the patio furniture cushions. They love to tear into a cushion to get the stuffing to add to there nest. Can this product be applied direct to cushion without staining ?
A: Thanks for your inquiry. Scoot Squirrel has a cinnamon color and does leave a stain so using it directly on your cushions would not be advisable.
An option for you to discourage them from going to your patio would be to apply our Scoot Squirrel to the areas or paths that they use regularly. Once they experience the pepper effects they’ll learn that each time they go through that area they’ll have discomfort and they will stay away. It usually takes a just couple of incidences for them to modify their behavior. I hope this helps!
Q: Can Scoot Repellent be put on the siding and roof (shingles) of a house? We have squirrels knawing through our siding and roof.
A: Thanks for your email. This product can be applied anywhere….my only concern is that the active ingredient is Capsicum Pepper. This oil has a strong orange/red color to it. I would be concerned about staining. IF you were try it, I would apply in an inconspicous place first.
Another option would be to apply to the area the squirrels go through to GET onto your house. Hope this helps.
Q: Trying to get rid of Southern Flying Squirrels (nocturnal, tiny) and keep them out of our bird feeders at dusk and at night. Do you have evidence or testimonials that your product will keep that species away? We live in West Central Florida.
A: We do not have any efficacy or flying squirrels at this time. The product must come in direct contact with the squirrel in order for it to have an effect on them. Being as seeds (bird seed) is one of their food sources and they do fly (glide or float) and could be eating bird seed from a feeder I would say if the feeder is treated and they land on the feeder, getting the pepper oil on their fur will give cause to the product being a successful repellent.
Scoot Squirrel must get in there fur and will end up in their eyes. Being as they are a very nervous and anxious rodent losing their eye sight for even a short time would be a monumental issue for them. Please understand that the product must get into the eyes for it to successfully act as a repellent for any squirrel.
Q: Scoot Squirrel - Is it safe to use on vegetables? Corn, Cabbage, Tomatoes
A: Thank you for your question regarding using Scoot Squirrel on vegetables. We usually don’t recommend spraying our Scoot Squirrel directly to plants that have soft tissue leaves and flowers as the pepper heat may cause them to burn along with the sun’s rays and heat. However it can be sprayed on the ground around your corn, cabbage and tomato plants without harming the plant leaves and growing vegetables.
If the squirrels are a problem in your garden we definitely would recommend spraying Scoot Squirrel around the garden perimeter so that they’ll travel through it and after a few experiences of the pepper affects they’ll learn to stay away. We call it behavior modification!
Q: We have a beautiful peach tree. Last year, we didn't get even one peach from it because the squirrels invaded the tree when the fruit was very green and young and just seemed to have fun tearing it off. It didn't look like they even attempted to eat it. Would Scoot Squirrel harm a peach tree or the fruit if we were to spray the tree with it?
A: Thank you for your note. It sounds like the squirrels are a big problem for you! In answer to your question about repelling squirrels you're your peach tree we're happy to reply. Our Scoot Squirrel Repellent can be sprayed directly on the bark of the tree without harming the fruit. We don't recommend spraying the peaches as they are a soft tissue fruit. You should spray the ground around the tree as well. The idea is that each time they go to that area they'll get the pepper affects and learn to stay away. It usually only takes a couple of experiences for them to modify their behavior. Treat the tree and ground around the tree fifteen days after the first treatment to keep them away if you notice that they are returning. A second treatment will normally have a long lasting affect. Please let us know how it works out for you. We're always interested in hearing the results from our customers. Thank you for choosing our Scoot Squirrel Repellent.
